The research field Animal Disease Control focuses on epidemiological and static research into the prevention of infectious conditions, the development and realisation of infection models including animal infection models (calculation models) and animal disease transmission. The results are translated into policy recommendations for animal diseases and animal disease control programmes. These recommendations take into account the effects of integral measures involved in, and the economic and social acceptability of, animal disease control. The calculation models are also used to analyse the effectiveness of government regulations regarding animal disease control.

Within the research area of Animal disease Control, the Central Veterinary Institute carries out research for national and international governments, commodity boards, private organisations, Senter, research organisations and the business community into the spread, transmission and organised control of infectious animal diseases.
