Sensitivity and specificity calculations
In the field of Tests, the Central Veterinary Institute calculates the sensitivity and specificity of various tests concentrating primarily on populations in which the prevalence of the pathogen in question is low, and for which no gold standard test is yet available. Methods used for these calculations include Bayesian methods. In order to optimise the infection models and tests, checks are carried out in the group’s own Experimental Animal Facilities. These are subsequently used to help develop vaccines and diagnostic tests, and to calculate the economic consequences in the event of an outbreak of animal disease.
