CVI aims at an optimal support of the Dutch government and business life by performing diagnostic tests and scientific research and by giving policy recommendations for prevention and control of (notifiable) infectious animal diseases.
CVI contributes to animal and public health and the guarantee of business streams. The department functions as national reference laboratory for

• Lumpy skin disease
• Classical swine fever
• Avian influenza
• Newcastle disease
• Rabies
• Leucosis
• Aujeszky's disease
• Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis

Exotic diseases:

• Bluetongue
• Rinderpest
• African swine fever

CVI functions as international OIE reference laboratory for the Aujeszky's disease.
